Years: 7 - 9

All girls study art in years 7, 8 and 9.

The focus for year 7 is 'Art Materials'. Girls are encouraged to experiment freely with art materials in both 2 and 3-dimensions to discover their working qualities.

The focus for year 8 is 'Expression'. Girls are taught how to control art materials to record what they can see and to express the ideas they imagine.

The focus for year 9 is 'Form, Space and Composition'. Girls are taught how to make 3-dimensional space look convincing, and how to compose their artwork to convey drama and meaning. They also learn to create sculptures by designing with 3-dimensional forms.

In all three years art history is taught in conjunction with the practical projects.

GCSE FINE ART - Explores the world of the artist

Artists like to express their feelings, convey the visual ideas they have, and communicate their view of the world to other people.  This is done through drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

Art 1 also provides you with the opportunity to experiment and develop textile work in Batik, screen printing, constructed textiles and felt making using wax, fabric, stencils, dyes, felt and more.

You will be taught new techniques using acrylics and watercolours and be able to create 3-dimensional work using materials such as clay, wire, wood, plaster and polystyrene.

A wide choice of topics on the course will help you explore and develop your own ideas and interests
